| | | | | | | | | EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: | Sugar Land Fire-EMS (SLFE) provides annual physicals and necessary immunizations for current and incoming firefighters. The physicals that are performed by Sugar Land Family Physicians (SLFP) follow the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1582 specific guidelines that aim to reduce risks and improve the health, safety, and effectiveness of firefighters.
The contract with SLFP in the amount of $55,084 includes 131 firefighter physicals, physicals/drug screening for 10 estimated new hire vacancies, 60 cancer screening tests, and an estimated 50 immunizations. Firefighters are at a higher risk for both heart attacks and cancer. By utilizing SLFP to perform medical testing and physical examinations that meet NFPA 1582 standards, SLFE is taking a proactive approach in screening our firefighters for preventable risks such as hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol.
