The Sugar Land Business Park currently has less than 4% of greenfield sites left. With this in mind Economic Development and Engineering Departments are working together to maximize the developable acreage for each remaining parcel in the Business Park. The detention improvements resulting from this design contract will enable additional business development to meet the regional detention gap between the previous standard and Atlas 14. Commercial/industrial properties will be able to maximize their development and have a greater economic impact on the tax rolls.
The Sugar Land Business Park Northeast Detention Pond will be designed to maximize dry detention pond volume in the available footprint, adding an additional 14 acre-feet of detention volume to the pond.
The engineering scope of work for this project includes the completion of the following services:
· Develop construction plans/technical specifications
· Complete contract documents suitable for construction bidding
· Develop Opinion of Probable Construction Cost (OPCC)
· Prepare a limited topographic survey of the construction area
The schedule to complete the design is four (4) months following the Notice to Proceed.
The funds for the design portion of the project are available from the American Rescue Plan Act in the amount of $100,000.00. Earlier this year, City Council approved American Rescue Plan Act funds in the amount of $500,000.00 for the total project, inclusive of design and construction.
In accordance with City Policy PU-109, LAN, Inc. was selected from the City’s library of pre-qualified firms based on their experience with similar regional detention projects. The Economic Development and Engineering Departments are satisfied with LAN, Inc.’s work on previous detention projects and recommend the City Council authorize a professional services contract with LAN, Inc. in the amount of $92,761.00 for Business Park Detention Basin Improvements.
