EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

Keep Sugar Land Beautiful (KSLB) is a nonprofit dedicated to educating and engaging everyone to take responsibility for the environmental health of our community. Keep Sugar Land Beautiful is a gold star affiliate of Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB), a nonprofit organization dedicated to beautifying and improving community environments through programming and education. KTB works with affiliate communities, government agencies, businesses, civic groups, and volunteers to ensure that every Texan has the opportunity to make Texas the cleanest, most beautiful state in the nation.

Since 1999, the City of Sugar Land has authorized contracts with KSLB to provide education, programs, and volunteers to promote litter, waste reduction, storm water, recycling, water conservation, environmental awareness and beautification. KSLB organizes, coordinates, publicizes, and provides volunteers for agreed-upon events and programs, including the Sugar Land Earth Day Celebration, Don't Mess with Texas Trash Off, Trees Across Sugar Land, and the storm drain marking program. KSLB also provides education and assistance to schools and commercial businesses to implement or enhance recycling programs.

The contract with KSLB has a five-year term with three one-year automatic renewals. The contract cost is $1.14 per capita/per year and is funded through the solid waste contract with Republic Services. The funds may only be used by KSLB for activities and services directly related to providing litter and waste reduction, storm water education, recycling, environmental awareness and beautification projects in and for the City of Sugar Land.
