The Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance of over 390 miles of storm sewer pipe, and over 26,000 storm sewer inlets and manholes. In the past, the City made reactive repairs to this infrastructure based on what was identified by City staff or concerns from residents.
Line cleaning and televising the storm sewer lines are critical to helping ensure the capabilities of the storm sewer systems are optimized. The televising is used to identify potential problem areas, allows early detection of pipe failure so that rehabilitation projects can be strategically planned, and reduces the need for repair on an emergency basis.
An Invitation to Bid was advertised for a one-year unit price contract that could be renewed for four additional years. The initial contract would be awarded based on the available budget allocated by City Council. Within the past year, staff has terminated the previous contract with hopes of working with a new vendor.
On November 10, 2022, the City received bids for On-Call Storm Sewer Infrastructure Cleaning, Televising, and Inspection. The City received bids from two contractors and the apparent low bid was from BCAC Underground. BCAC Underground has a stout history working with the city in past years.
