AGENDA REQUEST NO: VIII.A.

AGENDA OF: City Council Meeting

INITIATED BY: Jon Soriano, Community Development Program Strategist

PRESENTED BY: Jon Soriano, Community Development Program Strategist

RESPONSIBLE DEPARTMENT: Economic Development

AGENDA CAPTION:
Consideration of and action on authorization of a Contract with Brick & Batten Inc., in the amount of $81,250.00, for 125 vouchers/coupons for discounted exterior design services for City residents for the Great Homes Design Program.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Authorize the execution of a professional services contract with Brick & Batten for 125 vouchers/coupons for virtual, exterior home design services for use in the City's pilot program, the Great Homes Design Program.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The Great Homes Design Program is a pilot program that provides Sugar Land homeowners and community-based organizations, such as homeowner associations (HOAs), with a creative, re-envisioned exterior home design at a Sugar Land-exclusive cost. Homeowners who substantially implement at least one qualifying exterior incentive to their home within six months of receiving an exterior home design through the program may be eligible to receive a one-time rebate check from the City.

A request for qualifications (RFQ) was released on December 7, 2022, to select a firm/team to work with the City of Sugar Land to provide exterior home design services to program participants of the Great Homes Design Program. Submissions were due on December 29, 2022. In January 2023, City staff conducted interviews with respondents, and two virtual exterior home design firms were selected to participate in the pilot program: 1) Brick & Batten and 2) Dzinly.

The vouchers/coupons received from Brick & Batten will benefit the City by providing Sugar Land Homeowners and Community-Based Organizations in the City a significant discount on exterior home design services. An application for Sugar Land homeowners will be available through the City's website to participate in the pilot program and receive a voucher. The voucher can then be used to obtain a digital, high-quality exterior home rendering that will aid program participants in implementing renovations to their residential property in Sugar Land. Renderings can include but are not limited to, updated paint colors, lighting, doors, windows, railing, shutters, décor, and other custom design elements. Finally, a clickable shopping list will aid homeowners in implementing the updated design.

The total contract amount is $81,250.00, in which Brick & Batten will provide 125 vouchers/coupons for virtual, exterior home design services for use in the City's pilot program, the Great Homes Design Program.
