The FY23 Sugar Land Police Department HTR budget includes funds allocated towards the purchase of nine police laser cameras which are scheduled for replacement.
 
Laser Technology, Inc., is a premier source for commercial laser speed enforcement tools developed for law enforcement use, and a preferred vendor for laser equipment within the City of Sugar Land.
 
The pricing is supported by the Houston-Galveston Area Council (HGAC) Cooperative Purchasing contract #EF04-21 Law Enforcement Speed Detection & Video Equipment. HGACBuy contracts are established based on the requirements of the Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 252. Products and services are contracted after having been subjected to either a competitive bid (IFB) or competitive proposal (RFP) process.
 
The total cost of the purchase of the nine police lidar speed guns with digital video cameras is $57,510.00. Consistent with State Law, purchases over $50,000.00 must be approved by City Council.
 
The Police Department recommends that the City Council authorizes the execution of a contract with Laser Technology, Inc., in the amount of $57,510.00 through HGAC Cooperative Purchasing Agreement No. #EF04-21 for the purchase of the police lasers.
