AGENDA CAPTION:
Consideration of and action on authorization of a Contract with Lake Country Chevrolet, Inc., in the amount of $560,944.95 through The Interlocal Purchasing System Contract No. 210907, for the purchase of eleven (11) Chevrolet Tahoe and four (4) Criminal Investigation Division Units fleet vehicles for the Police Department.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Approve the purchase of eleven (11) Chevrolet Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicles, four (4) Criminal Investigation Units (CID) from Lake Country Chevrolet in the amount of $560,944.95 utilizing TIPS USA Cooperative Purchasing Contract No. 210907.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The Fleet Division within the Environmental and Neighborhood Services Department maintains the Fleet Vehicle/Equipment Acquisition Program, which addresses the purchase of new fleet assets. The police department has identified a need to purchase additional units for patrol and Criminal Investigation Division (CID) The purchase will be for eleven (11) Chevrolet Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicles and four (4) CID units. 

 

These vehicles will be purchased through a Cooperative Purchasing Agreement with Lake Country Chevrolet TIPS USA 210907. Cooperative Agreements are with governmental purchasing organizations, of which the city is a member. These agreements leverage the purchasing potential of governmental entities. All contracts are competitively bid, and contracts are awarded in compliance with state procurement laws and regulations.


Once new vehicles are released to the departments, the replaced/older or out of service units are disposed of in accordance with Policy No. PU-117 and Chapter 2175 of the Texas Government Code. At the time of disposition, these vehicles are usually still considered valuable and are disposed of through an auction sale. In some instances, the vehicles could be exchanged with an existing pool vehicle, exchanged within another internal department if the appropriate exchange is identified, requiring the disposition of the original pool vehicle or holdover to fulfill additional needs related to emergency response. 
 
The Environmental and Neighborhood Services Department recommends the City Council authorize the purchase of eleven (11) Chevrolet Tahoe Police Pursuit Units and (4) four Criminal Investigation Division (CID) Units, utilizing the TIPS USA Cooperative Agreement Contract Number 210907 in the amount of $560,944.95 from Lake Country Chevrolet.
