Public Works utility staff perform construction on the water, streets, utilities, and wastewater infrastructure, including preventative maintenance, daily repairs, and construction within the City. The Public Works staff within the Water Division and Fleet Services staff have identified a need to purchase a new backhoe. The new purchase will add additional capabilities related to the department's job functions. In addition, the new unit will ensure a reliable, working unit with updated technology and accessories that will allow additional tasks within the scope of existing work. The division needs this equipment to perform job responsibilities such as digging, moving material, small demolitions, breaking asphalt, and other functions as the need arises. This unit will also be utilized during emergencies to assist with repairs and recovery. 
 
The new backhoe will be purchased through Omnia Partners Cooperative Purchasing Contract No. 212816. Cooperative Agreements are with governmental purchasing organizations the City is a member of. These agreements leverage the purchasing potential of governmental entities. All contracts are competitively bid and are awarded in compliance with state procurement laws and regulations.
 
The Public Works Department recommends that the City Council authorize the purchase of a Caterpillar 420XE Backhoe utilizing Omnia Partners Cooperative Purchasing Contract No. 212816 pricing in the amount of $195,705.07. Budgeted funding is available in the FY 2023 Water Utilities Fund.
