Following the January 2023 solid waste transition, the City experienced an initial increase in the number of resident calls regarding services. Despite public education efforts, calls regarding bulky waste remained consistent, with many residents indicating they preferred the routine service over on-call.
During an August meeting with Republic Services, company representatives presented City staff with a proposal to move back to the one Monday per month routine scheduled bulky waste pickup with no impact to the current monthly rate.
On November 1st, bulky waste reverted back to a routine monthly service. The date was selected in an effort to avoid confusion surrounding the additional holiday bulky waste pickups in the weeks following Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s. For simplicity, residents will keep the same bulky waste collection schedule that was in place prior to the January 2023 transition.
Ordinance modifications are necessary to codify requirements for bulky waste collection and remove references to the former bulky waste scheduling process.
A Public Hearing and First Reading of Ordinance No. 2324 were held during the November 21, 2023, City Council Meeting.
The Environmental & Neighborhood Services Department recommends approval of the Second Reading for Ordinance No. 2324, modifying Chapter 3, Article IX of the Code of Ordinances to bring regulations in line with current bulky waste service levels.
