EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

Section 1.05 of the City Charter provides that the City Council will appoint a charter commission as often as it deems necessary, but not less than every five years, to review the operations of city government under the Charter and determine whether revisions should be made.

On December 19, 2023, City Council appointed a Charter Review Commission charged with the responsibility of reviewing the operations of city government to determine whether revisions in the Charter should be made; and that the Commission complete the work and present to the City Council a written report on the findings and recommendations.

Members of the Commission include Daniel Harris (Chair), Bob Barbour, David James, Tara Mascarenhas, Lesley Nicholes, and Neel Patel.

The Commission held six public meetings from January 24, 2023  to April 17, 2024, all of which where open to the public. No members of the public spoke at any of the public comment periods. The Commission received comments from City Council at the Commission's February 7, 2024 meeting.

The Commission's recommendations are contained within the report presented for consideration by the city council for future placement on a ballot.

The purpose of this workshop is to receive the Commission's report and address clarifying questions.
