The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) have completed final grant selection for the Solid Waste Implementation Grants. The grant awards funding to local governments for implementation of solid waste minimization and recycling awareness projects and programs. The funding allows the City to implement a Recycling Awareness and Education Campaign. The funding will be provided to the City in FY18 and 19.
The Recycling Awareness and Education Campaign will provide a broad based recycling awareness & education campaign for youth and adults. The goal is to reduce the amount of material sent to the landfill and increase the amount of reusable resources. This will include the newly annexed areas of New Territory and Greatwood.
The education campaign will include the following:
• Recycle super hero costume
• Educational ads on six Fort Bend ISD school buses
• Educational performance at Fort Bend and Lamar Consolidated ISD schools
• Customized Activity book
• Books for teachers
Staff recommends the City Council accept the grant and approve a budget amendment to revenues and expenditures in the amount of $24,970.00.
