AGENDA CAPTION:
Consideration of and action on acceptance of a Donation from the Finest & Bravest Foundation, in the amount of $200,000.00, for public safety; and authorization of a Budget Amendment in the amount of $200,000.00 to revenues and expenditures.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Sugar Land Fire Department & Sugar Land Police recommend the acceptance of a monetary donation in the amount of $200,000.00 from the Finest & Bravest Foundation and the approval of a budget amendment in the amount of $100,000.00 for each respective department.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

Finest & Bravest Foundation, a community-focused organization dedicated to supporting Sugar Land Public Safety, has generously pledged $200,000.00 to the City of Sugar Land as a result of its annual Red & Blue United event. This significant contribution is intended to enhance the capabilities and resources available to the Sugar Land Police Department (SLPD) and the Sugar Land Fire Department (SLFD) services, reinforcing their commitment to public safety.

 

The funds will be divided evenly amongst SLPD & SLFD, with $100,000.00 for each department, and are allocated in collaboration with the respective departments to address specific needs, equipment upgrades, and training opportunities.

 

SLPD:

  • Rifle-Rate ballistic vests
  • Drone Technology
  • Pole Cameras

 

SLFD:

  • Equip all front-line medic units with ultrasound machines to further improve our EMS capabilities
  • Digital fire extinguisher prop for community education/Citizens Fire Academy/training to emphasize the importance of fire safety in our community
  • Drones for our Fire Marshal Office and Communications to leverage innovative technology for more efficient operation
  • UTV & Thermal Imaging Cameras for Operations to equip and enhance response capabilities for Fire & EMS incidents

 

This generous donation reaffirms the strong partnership between our community and the dedicated individuals serving in our Police and Fire-EMS departments.

 

SLPD and SLFD recommend that the City Council accept this donation from the Finest & Bravest Foundation in the amount of $200,000.00 and approve a budget amendment in the amount of $100,000.00 for each respective department.
