| | | | | | | | | EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: | The mission of the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) is to empower youth to become active members in their community by providing students with an overview of the complexity of opportunities to impact the future of Sugar Land through local government public service.
The MYAC Class of 2017-2018 represents the twelfth year of the program. This year’s class is comprised of 28 high school juniors representing eight area high schools. In fact, the class had representatives from our newest residents as several students who participated live in the newly annexed Greatwood or New Territory communities. The Class began with an Induction and Orientation in October and concludes with the City Council Recognition.
Throughout the past year, MYAC members participated in a new teambuilding exercise, fun and educational activities, toured facilities, and learned how Sugar Land’s government functions. Students gained an insightful understanding of the City’s Council-Manager form of government and that policy guidance is set by the Mayor and City Council, while the day-to-day operational management is the responsibility of the City Manager and staff.
Furthermore, MYAC members elect both the Class president and service officer at the start of the program. We would like to thank our Service Officer Manushi Vatani and President Roshan Patel for their leadership.
Staff requests the Mayor and City Council recognize members of the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council Class of 2017-2018 to show their appreciation for the dedication to public service that each student continues to demonstrate. |
