With the way the world communicates changing so rapidly and the importance of communications in a democratic society, it is critical that the City of Sugar Land approach its corporate communications strategy in a way that builds its reputation as a trustworthy source of information for all City-related information and also recognizes the roles and responsibilities of City staff and elected officials – as well as residents – when it comes to fostering active, authentic citizen engagement.
Recognizing the importance of this topic, it was discussed at length at the Fall 2016 City Council Retreat. Following the Fall 2016 work session, staff prepared draft Guiding Principles for review and discussion at the Spring 2017 City Council retreat. On May 23rd, 2017, staff again held a workshop to further review the draft Guiding Principles. The City Council has previously reached a consensus on the draft Guiding Principles and staff has begun to implement this vision.
This workshop will provide an update on the staff implementation, including the various communication and citizen engagement strategies being employed as we work to achieve the vision.
Additionally, this workshop will provide for a review and discussion regarding the staff recommended approach toward various budget-related communication items as they relate to the implementation of the Corporate Communication vision.
