The Animal Services Division has contracted with Sugar Land Pet Hospital for veterinary services for the animals at the Sugar Land Animal Shelter since October 2015. During this time, we have seen an increase in the number of animals at the shelter and an increase in costs due to higher costs in veterinary supplies and medical treatment, as the Shelter has recently experienced a Panleukopenia outbreak; numerous upper respiratory and ringworm infections; and an increase in the number of heartworm positive animals.
The Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 contract with Sugar Land Pet Hospital for veterinary services was recently amended in August 2018, increasing the contract amount to $61,000 due to the increase in animals and veterinary expenses, with the contract term expiring September 30, 2018. The Animal Services Division anticipates the same level of service and contractual expenses in FY 2019, for contract term dates of October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2018.
Funds for this contract are in the Animal Services Operations and Maintenance Budget.
The Environmental and Neighborhood Services Department recommends the City Council approve a contract with Sugar Land Pet Hospital in the amount of $62,000 for veterinary services in Fiscal Year 2019.
