Boards and commission are vital part of city government, providing an opportunity for citizen involvement in the governing process of the City and providing City Council with input, ideas, feedback and suggestions on public policy. The policy of the City Council is to annually appoint citizens to serve on various boards and commissions. Each board and commission exercises a number of advisory and quasi-judicial powers and functions essential or useful to the operation of city government.
If vacancies occur within board and commissions, the positions may be filled from a current list of applicants using the appointment process delineated in Council Policy 3000-09 (Resolution 15-24) or through recruitment for interested volunteers.
During the workshop, staff will present an overview of the appointment process for Boards and Commissions and request guidance on the process to be used for the late summer/fall 2018 appointments.
