On January 7, 2020, City Council approved Resolution No. 20-01, authorizing the submission of an application for the FY20 Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG). On September 21, 2020, the City received notification from the Texas Division of Emergency Management that the City's application for financial assistance under EMPG has been approved in the amount of $33,638.43.

The 2020 priority for EMPG is to advance "Whole Community" security and emergency management. Grant funds will be used to support local comprehensive emergency management programs to encourage the improvement of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery capabilities for all hazards. This is the eighth year of the City's participation in the EMPG process. and is in support of the City's continued priority of "Safest City in America." The City will utilize funding from EMPG to conduct training and large scale exercises to prepare staff and the community for a variety of hazards.

The Emergency Management Department recommends that the City Council accept the Emergency Management Performance Grant award in the amount of $33,638.43.
