The City of Sugar Land has provided residential collection and removal of soft recyclables since February 2016. Through the City's Textile Recycling Program, residents can recycle soft recyclables at no charge. Soft recyclables include, but are not limited to, clothing, shoes, accessories, kitchenware, linens, etc. This program has included a small revenue generating contract.
In August 2021, the City's textile recycling service provider changed the contract terms, including the collection schedule (from once per week to an on-call service) and fee, without the City's approval. The City terminated the contract effective on November 18, 2021.
Green City Recycler will provide residential collection and removal of soft recyclables to residents on an on-call basis. Residents would schedule a pickup by completing the online form located on the City's website. Residents will provide their own bags or containers for materials and place the materials at their front door for collection on the date provided by the contractor. Green City Recycler will pay the City five ($0.05) cents per pound of soft recyclable materials collected from the City's residents.
The Environmental and Neighborhood Services Department recommends the approval of the residential collection and removal of soft recyclables with Green City Recycler, effective November 19, 2021.
