The Environmental and Neighborhood Services Department maintains the Fleet Replacement Program which addresses the replacement of fleet assets and is based on mileage and age to ensure a safe, economical, and reliable fleet. Below is the mileage and age criteria required to be met in order for the vehicle to be eligible for replacement.

Vehicles meeting the age or mileage criteria are reviewed by City staff. The vehicles condition and repair history are reviewed to ensure the vehicle does need to be replaced. In addition, vehicles are considered for replacement outside the age and mileage criteria based on the condition and repair history of the vehicle.
During the budget process, a total of 29 fleet assets were approved for replacement during FY18. This request is for the purchase of five vehicles that have met the criteria for replacement.
Through Caldwell Country Chevrolet, the Purchasing Department will procure five scheduled replacement vehicles for $157,925.
- 4 - Chevrolet Tahoe PPVs for the Police Department - Patrol Division
- 1 - Chevrolet Tahoe PPV for the Fire Department - Training Division
The City will be purchasing these vehicles through a Cooperative Agreement with Fort Bend County (FBC 18-022). Cooperative Agreements are with governmental purchasing organizations of which the City is a member. These agreements leverage the purchasing potential of governmental entities. All contracts are competitively bid, and contracts are awarded in compliance with state procurement laws and regulations.
Staff recommends the City Council authorize the purchase of five replacement vehicles from Caldwell Country Chevrolet, utilizing Fort Bend County contract pricing, in the amount of $157,925. Budgeted funding is available in the FY18 Fleet Replacement Fund.
