Since 1985, Americans have celebrated Parks and Recreation Month in July to promote the importance of parks and recreation in health and wellness, conservation and social equity, and to recognize the thousands of parks and recreation employees that maintain our nation’s local and community parks.
Parks and recreation services are vital for our communities. From protecting open space and natural resources, to helping fight obesity, to providing us places to play, get fit and stay healthy, to fostering new relationships and forging a connection with nature, our close-to-home community parks and recreation facilities provide essential services and improve quality of life.
Today we would like to not only Proclaim July 2017 as National Parks and Recreation Month but also take a moment to recognize our PARCS Board members who also play a vital role in the success of Parks in Sugar Land. Their countless hours of work on the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan alongside City staff and Halff Associates, will be the guide to shaping the future of parks and recreation in Sugar Land for years to come.
