EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The Summer Intern Program was established to attract undergraduate and graduate students currently completing coursework towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree. The mission of the program is geared towards helping students build/enhance their resume, investigate personal interests and goals, and network with government professionals.

The Summer Internship Class of 2017 represents the fifth year of the program. In November 2016, the Human Resources Department began the recruitment to fill 11 Intern positions by May 2017. A panel was formed to review over 90 applications with 30 individuals being invited to compete and interview for the following internship opportunities.

·         Broadcast Intern

·         Engineering Intern- 2 openings

·         ENS Intern

·         HR/Risk Intern

·         Parks & Development Intern

·         Planning Intern

·         Records Management Intern

·         Special Events Intern

·         Cultural Arts Intern

The internship began on May 15, 2017 and the students had an opportunity to participate in learning and development seminars, tour city facilities, attend City Council meetings, and participate in police ride-alongs.  With that, staff recommends that the City Council recognize the 2017 summer interns.
