AGENDA CAPTION:
Consideration of and action on authorizing acceptance of monetary donations in the amount of $8,077.45 for City of Sugar Land Animal Services.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Authorize the acceptance of Animal Services monetary donations in the amount of $8,077.45 and to extend the City’s gratitude for these generous donations made to the City of Sugar Land’s Animal Services.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The Animal Services division receives donations from residents, non-residents, and businesses throughout the year. City policy requires any donation exceeding $250 be formally accepted by City Council. Animal Services has received fourteen donations, which are listed below and are being recommended for acceptance.

 

Donations to the shelter  totaling $8,077.45:

  • Animal Services has an adoption partnership with PetSmart located at 16758 Southwest Freeway, which provides an opportunity for the City to display adoptable animals in the community on a daily basis. Through the PetSmart adoption partnership, the City receives $10 per adoption and has received $1,330.00 from PetSmart this quarter. The City has received a total of $6,220.00 through the adoption partnership with PetSmart.
  • Squeezed held a contest with the proceeds going to the Animal Shelter. They raised $250.00.
  • Every year Raising Cane's sells Plush Puppies during Christmas time and donates the proceeds to the Animal Shelter. This year they raised $880.44.
  • Dr. Barbara Wilhouse at  Lexington Boulevard Animal Hospital, held a fund raiser for the Animal Shelter and raised $357.01.
  • Long time volunteers and animal lovers, Ellen Tarver and Donna Hammond donated $1,000.00 each to the Animal  Shelter and have  a combined total of over 2691 hours of volunteer service.
  • Sue Wege, one of our Animal Advisory Board members, donated $1,000.00 to help the animals.
  • Members of the community and animal lovers, Karen Blake donated $500.00, Richard Paynter donated $250.00, Nicholas Blesener donated $250.00, Williams Reeves donated $500.00, Robert Heath donated $250.00, Shah Dhwanit donated $250.00, Kenneth Elliott donated $260.00

 

Staff recommends that the City Council accept the Animal Services monetary donations for shelter operations in the amount of $8,077.45 and to extend the City’s gratitude for these generous donations made to the City of Sugar Land’s Animal Services.
