As part of the City’s Mosquito Control Program, the Public Works Department is responsible for procuring services from a qualified vector control company for Mosquito Spraying Services. The scope of this contract provides for weekly mosquito control sprayings, as needed, beginning in May and lasting through October. The spraying treatment typically begins after 9:00 pm on Friday evenings and is concluded before sunrise. The City may request more frequent spray cycles as necessary during the year if required. The mosquito spraying is coupled with the larvacide treatment of drainage ditches and storm sewer systems to help control and reduce the mosquito population. The larvacide application is administered in house by our licensed personnel.
On September 6 and 13, 2017, Invitation to Bid (ITB) 2017-28 was advertised for bids. On September 21, 2017, four bids were received and evaluated. Two of the bids were deemed non-responsive. The bids received are based on a price per cycle cost.

The qualified low bidder is Cypress Creek Pest Control. This contract is a renewable contract structured as a five year agreement, which includes the initial one-year term plus four additional opportunities to automatically renew each year. In addition, the contract does include weekly spraying in Greatwood and New Territory.
Funding for this contract is available through the Public Works Streets and Drainage Division-Operations & Maintenance Budget with a total budget of $171,420.00 for Fiscal Year 2018. Utilizing the total budget allows for 30 cycles of routine spraying, and 6 cycles of rotational chemical spraying.
The Public Works Department recommends that the City Council approve a renewable contract with Cypress Creek Pest Control in the amount of $171,420.00.
