| | | | | | | | EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: | The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has awarded the Sugar Land Police Department the 2018 STEP Commercial Motor Vehicle Grant (STEP CMV Grant) in the amount of $15,463.76 to pay for overtime costs associated with the speed enforcement of commercial motor vehicles within the City of Sugar Land. Per the grant agreement, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will reimburse overtime costs in the amount of $11,958.50, which is 77.33% of the total grant award. The City match requirement is $3,505.26, which is 22.67% of the total grant award.
The purpose of the 2018 STEP CMV Grant is to reduce commercial motor vehicle crashes, injuries and fatalities involving vehicles with a vehicle type of “Semi-Trailer” or “Truck-Tractor”. The enforcement duties are assigned largely to the traffic unit, with assistance from patrol officers, sergeants and lieutenants when needed. The STEP CMV Grant is a year-long grant beginning October 1, 2017 ending September 30, 2018, or on the date the grant agreement is fully executed by both parties, namely, the City of Sugar Land and TxDOT.
The Police Department recommends City Council approve Resolution No. 17-29, accept the 2018 STEP Commercial Motor Vehicle Grant award totaling $15,463.76, approve a budget amendment of $11,959 to revenues and expenditures and appoint Chief Douglas Brinkley as the authorized grant official.
