In addition to the work by the City's community engagement program to connect Sugar Land residents impacted by Hurricane Harvey to volunteer and philanthropic organizations, an Employees Helping Employees Committee was assembled shortly after Hurricane Harvey inundated the region. Many City employees were personally affected and had houses, vehicles and property flooded.
Employees quickly began to assemble a record of who was impacted, documented their needs and started various initiatives including a supply drive and efforts to raise funds through donations.
Through their efforts they have raised monetary donations and supplies such as diapers, toiletries and food. Many employees are still recovering, and the Committee continues to collect and distribute donated supplies - and will continue its efforts in the upcoming months.
The Committee recognized that the community is in need as well and agreed that half of the donations received through the Sugar Land Strong event should go to a local organization. Therefore, over $1,500 will go to Fort Bend Harvey Recovery led by the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce.
This recognition will recognize the Employees Helping Employees Committeeand show appreciation for their dedication to their coworkers and the community - as well as thank those within the organization and community who have not only helped their fellow residents during this time, but who have also helped support Sugar Land employees.
