EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The Animal Services division receives donations from residents, non-residents, and businesses throughout the year. City policy requires any donation exceeding $250 be formally accepted by City Council. Animal Services has received seven donations, which are listed below and are being recommended for acceptance.

  • Animal Services has an adoption partnership with PetSmart located at 16758 Southwest Freeway, which provides an opportunity for the City to display adoptable animals in the community on a daily basis. Through the PetSmart adoption partnership, the City receives $10 per adoption and has received $580.00 from PetSmart. The City has received a total of $5,290.00 through the adoption partnership with PetSmart.
  • The owner of Grid Iron Bar and Grill, Kevin Dylla, was enlisted by his daughter, Ellie, to do something for the animals. They scored a touchdown for the shelter by raising $542.00 for the animals.
  • Councilwoman Bridget Yeung donated $250.00 as a way to show her continued support of the shelter and her commitment to our community.
  • Marsha Smith has been a longtime supporter of the shelter and was on the original animal services task force to get our current shelter built. She recently donated $500.00 to show her continued support of the animal shelter.
  • Faye Dettling donated $300.00 to help the animals at the shelter.
  • David and Wilma Edmonds donated $500.00 to support our efforts in aiding the animals during hurricane Harvey.
  • Robin Novak is one of our volunteers of the year, one of the newest members of the expanded Animal Advisory Board, and an awesome advocate of the shelter.  She ordered two boxes of microchips with registrations for the animals getting adopted totaling $528.61.

The Environmental & Neighborhood Services Department recommends that the City council accept the Animal Services monetary donations in the amount of $2,672.00 and non-monetary donations in the amount of $528.61 and to extend the City’s gratitude for these generous donations made to the City of Sugar Land’s Animal Services.
