BRITTANY WRIGHT

LEVEL III COURT CLERK CERTIFICATION

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Pat Riffel, Co-Chair of Certification & Education Committee of Texas Court Clerks Association, to present Brittany Wright with her Level III Certified Court Clerk certificate.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
22 years ago, the Texas Court Clerks Association partnered with the Texas Municipal Court Education Center, Texas Municipal Courts Association and Texas State University to create an educational development program. The Municipal Court Clerk Certification Program was developed to provide professional development and educational growth to court staff in Municipal and Justice Courts.

The Certified Municipal Court Certification Program is comprised of three levels. Participants may achieve certification upon successful completion of each of the three levels earning the titles of Certified Court Clerk I, Certified Court Clerk II and Certified Municipal Court Clerk.

Today Brittany Wright is being recognized because she has obtained her Certified Municipal Court Clerk Certification. Mrs. Wright is the 81st clerk to ever obtain this designation, which makes her part of an elite group of court clerks in the State of Texas. This achievement was not an easy feat. In order to reach this level, Brittany had to obtain her Certified Court Clerk I and II certifications, which both require completing 40 hours of education, and successfully pass a three part exam. The requirements for the Certified Municipal Court Clerk certification required Brittany to: be a Certified Court Clerk II in good standing; complete 40 hours of court observation; write a paper about the court observations; read the 16 required books for the program (reading topics include management, leadership, court security, diversity, caseflow management, etc.); successfully pass a three part exam on the required reading; complete another 28 hours of continued education and an assessment clinic; and attend a court administrator seminar.

Certified Court Clerks, such as Brittany Wright, are a tremendous asset to a court. Having knowledgeable, well-educated and confident staff in court administration helps ensure that all defendants receive due process and are properly provided with their legal options. This not only results in excellent customer service, but it also provides a better experience for defendants, attorneys, and the public who visit our court - a true example of Sugar Land's Championship Workforce.
