Sugar Land 101 Annexation Class of 2017 Graduates
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Recognize Sugar Land 101 Annexation Class of 2017 Graduates
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

Sugar Land 101 began in 2004 as a means to familiarize citizens with the structure, function, and purpose of Sugar Land City government, and to equip and encourage them to assume a leadership role within the community.

This Fall 2017 class is the city’s 15th Sugar Land 101 citizen academy and was especially dedicated for residents within the Greatwood and New Territory communities who will be entered the City’s full-purpose jurisdiction due to annexation on December 12, 2017.

Applicants were Greatwood and New Territory residents who serve as neighborhood representatives for the homeowners association. Applicants were selected to represent a balanced group of Greatwood and New Territory representatives. This fall’s Sugar Land 101 Annexation class included 17 participants who began meeting in September 2017 and completed the 7-week program November 13, 2017.

The program aimed to provide an opportunity for Greatwood and New Territory residents to learn about the programs and services that the City offers, and serve as an opportunity for future residents to learn about City-wide standards and expectations. The program also provided future residents with an insight of the City’s day-to-day operations, as well as explore how future residents will be impacted by its daily services.

Members of Sugar Land 101 Annexation Class of 2017 committed their Monday evenings for three months to learning more about their city and now are equipped with information about how their city government works. As Sugar Land 101 Alumni, the participants are encouraged to remain engaged and become even more active in their community.

Mr. Jack Molho will serve as the class spokesperson and will say a few words on their behalf.

Family and friends of SL 101 Annexation Class of 2017 members will honor the graduates by attending their graduation prior to the formal City Council Recognition.

A very special thanks to all of the City Staff who served as instructors and support during classes which resulted in another very successful program.

Staff asks the City Council to recognize the members of the Sugar Land 101 Annexation Class of 2017.
