Center for Digital Government Digital Cities Award - City of Sugar Land places 5th in the nation for Digital Cities honored for government engagement, inclusion and transparency across the nation.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

For the 4th consecutive year, the City of Sugar Land was named among the top 10 Digital Cities across the country. This year, the City of Sugar Land received a 5th place ranking among cities having a population between 75,000 – 124,999, honored for government engagement, inclusion and transparency across the nation.

The application for this honor was a joint submission written by Information Technology, Communications and the City Secretary’s office. This award is a very nice recognition that Sugar Land continues to be on the cutting edge for using technology to improve our communications, public safety, accessibility and engagement for residents, businesses and visitors alike.

The City of Sugar Land has been named a “2017 Digital Cities” winner by the Center for Digital Government, who recognizes cities across the country that utilize best practices in state and local government information and communications technology.

This year judges specifically credited Sugar Land for innovative efforts to engage the public utilizing numerous social media platforms and transparency initiatives that leverage online tools such as the city website and mobile applications. Enhancements in cybersecurity posture, a newly redesigned, Facebook Live Town Hall and City Council meetings, and the newly arrived MySugarLand app, which is integrated with the city's computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) from Cityworks and lets residents report related concerns were among other callouts.

Congratulations to the Information Technology and Communications Departments as well as the Office of the City Secretary.
