| | | | | | | | | EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: | In June 2017, the Department of Justice solicited applications for the 2017 Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) Grant to local law enforcement agencies to protect the lives of law enforcement officers by helping State, local and tribal law enforcement agencies provide officers with armored vests compliant with the National Institute of Justice vest standards.
BVP is a critical resource for state and local jurisdictions that saves lives. Since 1999, the BVP program has awarded more than 13,000 jurisdictions, a total of $430 million in federal funds for the purchase of over one million vests.
On October 26, 2017 the City of Sugar Land Police Department was awarded $17,179 towards the purchase of replacement ballistic vests. The BVP Grant is a two year grant, with a 50% City match requirement which begins September 1, 2017 through August 31, 2019.
The Sugar Land Police Department recommends that City Council accept the 2017 Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant award, approve a budget amendment in the amount of $17,179 to revenues (account no. 010-0000-361-18-05) and $29,438 to expenditures (account no. 010-1808-518-22-76), assign project code PD1809 to the grant expenditure account and authorize Chief Douglas Brinkley as the Grant Official. |
